Everything people ask before they book
If you are renting a dumpster for the first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the town will fine you, and what you cannot throw in. The answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (630) 864-6143 — a real person in Naperville will answer it.
Part 1
Pricing
How much does a dumpster rental cost in Naperville, IL?
Most rentals typically run $350 to $750, depending on the size, the type of debris, the delivery location and how long you keep it; a 10 yard typically runs $350 to $550. You get a flat rate on the phone covering delivery, pickup, the standard 3 to 7 day rental and the included weight — 1 to 2 tons on a 10 yard, 2 to 3 on a 15, 3 to 4 on a 20, 4 to 5 on a 30, 5 to 6 on a 40. Going over is a simple overage fee based on weight. The cost guide breaks it down.
Is delivery and pickup included in the price?
Yes. Delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal up to the included weight are all in the one flat price. No hidden fuel surcharges, no extra fees.
What causes extra charges?
Two things: going over the included weight — a simple overage fee based on weight — and keeping the container past the rental window, at a daily or weekly rate. Banned items also have to come out of the load before it can go. We explain it all on the first call so there is nothing to find later.
Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or dirt?
Not a different rate — but concrete, brick, dirt and tile use up the included weight fast. So we size heavy loads differently (a 10 yard loaded level, or split loads) and tell you where the weight line is before you load.
What payment methods do you accept?
Major credit and debit cards. Payment is processed when your booking is confirmed, to secure your delivery date. Repeat commercial clients can ask about ongoing service plans.
Part 2
Sizing
What size dumpster do I need?
A 10 for a bathroom, a garage or heavy material, a 15 for a kitchen, flooring or a fence, a 20 for a whole-house cleanout or multi-room remodel, a 30 for a big renovation or an estate, a 40 for construction and demolition. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.
What happens if I order too small?
You need another pickup — and too large means paying for unused space. When in doubt, describe the job and let us size it. If your project grows, we can swap the dumpster.
What is the biggest dumpster you offer?
A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 7.5 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, 5–6 tons included. It is a job-site container, not a driveway one.
How full can I fill it?
Level with the top edge, no higher. Overfilled dumpsters cannot be safely transported, so even loading matters.
How much does a roof tear-off produce?
A 10 yard takes roughly 1,500 to 2,000 square feet of shingles; the 15 and 20 handle bigger roofs. Tell us the roof size and how many layers are coming off and we will plan it around the weight.
Part 3
Permits, placement and town rules
Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?
On your own driveway or private property in Naperville, we found no City permit for a roll-off. In the street, parkway, alley or sidewalk, you need a City Right-of-Way permit — applied for through the Civic Access portal with a map showing where the dumpster goes. It is $88, or $120 if part of the street is closed, with a $5,000 maintenance bond, and review takes about 14 calendar days (an expedite can be requested). The code keeps at least 18 feet of roadway open and wants warnings, barricades and lights where needed (§ 9-1A-10). Other towns differ — Glen Ellyn bans obstructing the street or parkway, North Aurora bans containers in the right-of-way, Wheaton wants a street occupancy permit. The permit guide and your town page cover the details.
Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?
In Naperville, with a Right-of-Way permit — and only along the street frontage of the work site unless the neighbor consents (§ 9-1A-10). Allow about two weeks for review, and check with the City before you count on it. Tell us when you book and we line the delivery up with it.
Why do some of your town pages say the town licenses haulers?
Because some do. Naperville requires a commercial scavenger licence from the City Clerk to collect or dispose of commercial waste — $250 a year, or $150 downtown, with a $50,000 bond (§ 4-2-4) — though the code leaves temporary construction roll-off containers out of its definition of commercial waste. Warrenville's scavenger licence is $750 a year, Wheaton licenses commercial haulers at $500, West Chicago's licence is $3,290, North Aurora requires a $270 Waste Removal Licence, and Plainfield allows no more than seven scavenger licences at a time. We hold ours. We quote the section on each page and tell you where your job stands.
Why do some town pages say the town keeps household trash?
Because most towns here contract their residential trash to one hauler. Naperville contracts with Groot; Glen Ellyn's code sends all residential waste to the Village's exclusive contractor (7-6-3), Warrenville has an exclusive franchise (6-2-9) and Montgomery an exclusive contract (§ 9-42). The same codes leave room for project debris: West Chicago lets a homeowner with a valid building permit use a different disposal service for the project (§ 9-142), and Glen Ellyn lets construction debris go with any Village-licensed scavenger. A roll-off carries project debris, not weekly trash. We tell you straight on the phone where your job stands.
Does my HOA matter?
It can. Some subdivisions have rules on containers in driveways. We do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
Ask for boards under the dumpster and the driver puts them down. Tell us before delivery if a surface needs more than that.
How much space does the truck need?
About 60 feet of clear space, a flat, stable surface and at least 25 feet of overhead clearance. Power lines, tree branches, parked cars and bins are the usual problem.
Part 4
Booking and delivery
How do I book a dumpster?
Call (630) 864-6143. Tell us the address, what is going in and roughly how much, and we quote it flat and schedule it on the same call.
How fast can you deliver?
Often same-day or next-day, depending on availability. Call early in the day for the best chance of same-day; the edges of our area are more often next day.
What are your hours?
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Storm requests go to the same number.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
The standard rental is 3 to 7 days. Call and we extend it at a daily or weekly rate. Some rules set their own clock: North Aurora allows a dumpster on a house lot only as long as a cleanup strictly needs or for the life of the building permit, and wants demolition debris cleared within 15 days; Wheaton's street occupancy permit runs 90 days. Your HOA may have its own limit.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Agree the spot with us, keep it clear of vehicles and obstacles, and the driver sets it down. Same for pickup.
Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?
Yes. Several dumpsters at once or scheduled rotations are routine for contractors and property managers.
Part 5
Service area
What cities do you serve?
Naperville, Lisle, Warrenville, Wheaton, Winfield, Downers Grove, Woodridge, Glen Ellyn and West Chicago in DuPage County; Aurora, North Aurora, Batavia, Montgomery and Oswego in the Fox Valley; Bolingbrook, Romeoville and Plainfield in Will County — each with its own page. The complete Naperville guide pulls it together.
Where is Elite Dumpsters Naperville based?
At 588 W 5th Ave, Naperville, IL 60563.
Is service different in the far towns?
Mostly the timing. West Chicago, North Aurora, Montgomery, Oswego, Batavia, Romeoville and Plainfield are 12 to 16 road miles from the yard and more often next day than same-day. Price depends partly on the delivery location, and we say any difference up front.
Do some towns restrict who can deliver a roll-off?
Yes — several license haulers or scavengers, and Glen Ellyn, North Aurora and others limit where a container can sit. Each town page says what that town's code says, and we tell you where your job stands when you call.
Part 6
What we take
What can I put in a dumpster?
Household junk and furniture, mattresses, wood, drywall, flooring, cabinets, roofing shingles, small non-hazardous appliances, clean yard waste, and concrete, brick, asphalt or dirt loaded level within the weight limit.
What can't go in a dumpster?
Tires, car batteries and motor oil — all banned from Illinois landfills — plus other liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, propane tanks and gas cylinders, chemicals, medical waste and asbestos. Fridges, freezers and A/C units only with the Freon, mercury and PCB parts removed. TVs, computers, monitors, printers and other covered electronics have been banned from Illinois landfills since January 1, 2026. The what can and cannot go in guide says where each of those goes instead.
Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?
No. For a regulated demolition or renovation, Illinois EPA wants its notification form and a $150 fee 10 working days before work starts. Privately owned homes and apartment buildings of four units or fewer are exempt from that notice, but Illinois EPA still says asbestos should be removed before demolition — by a licensed contractor, or wetted, sealed in leak-proof bags and taken to a permitted landfill. Naperville's Household Hazardous Waste Facility takes small amounts from residents, triple-bagged and up to 50 pounds. It never goes in a roll-off.
Can I put concrete, brick or dirt in a regular dumpster?
In a 10 or 15 yard, yes — heavy materials have strict weight limits for safe transport. Heaped in a 20 or 30 it is more than the truck can lift. Naperville's curbside service only takes small amounts of carpet, drywall and paneling, which is why so many patio and driveway jobs end up with a 10.
Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?
Mattresses, yes. Small non-hazardous appliances, yes. Fridges, freezers, A/C units, water heaters and other large appliances need the Freon, mercury and PCB parts removed first — Illinois bans them from landfills otherwise.
What happens to the debris after pickup?
It goes to a permitted facility. Clean concrete, brick and dirt can go to IEPA-authorized clean construction debris fill sites, mixed construction debris to C&D recyclers that sort it, household junk and mixed loads through permitted transfer stations or to a landfill, and clean green waste to composting, because Illinois bans it from landfills. Metal, concrete, asphalt and cardboard are recycled whenever possible. Nothing goes to a random dump.
